What is the
Nadine Jones Foundation
The Nadine Jones Foundation dedicates the contributions of generous donors to the providing of education through technology. Students at the University of Ghana, for example, can access study material from the home office in Idaho by means of sophisticated, web-based delivery systems. Through technology, education can be everywhere.
The Nadine Jones Foundation was established as a memorial to Nadine Jones. Nadine, a mother of four, was forty-eight years-old when she decided to go to college for the first time in her life. She entered community college on academic probation due to her low entrance exam scores. A few years later, she graduated a from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in psychology. While working in the field of psychology, Nadine was pursuing her master's degree when she discovered she had cervical cancer. She continued attending classes, taking exams, and completing research papers even as her health declined. Although she battled for her life valiantly, she continued schooling, despite ultimately knowing, at some point, that she would not likely live to the end of the current semester, let alone graduate. Why would anyone continue their schooling, while knowing they would not likely finish? For Nadine, it was because she had come to cherish education and the internal growth that a formal education could provide. She believed that the knowledge she gained in this life would transcend her earthly existence and go with her to the next life. And so, she worked. She studied. She continued until she was no longer physically capable. For her, it was not about grades, nor titles, nor certificates. To Nadine, it was about obtaining knowledge.
The Nadine Jones Foundation helps others all over the word, regardless of race, age, and culture, to gain knowledge through formal education. Currently, proceeds from charitable contributions are used to award nursing and respiratory therapy student scholarships as well as provide current respiratory therapy teaching programs financial supplementation for materials and tuition. Additionally, the foundation is currently helping the first group of licensed respiratory therapists in all of Africa by providing physical and online material to further their understanding of theory and practice in the field of respiratory therapy.
